Frankencrayon by Michael Hall

The crayon monster lives....

My kids enjoyed this nosensical book. From the get-go, the publisher makes sure you know THIS PICTURE BOOK HAS BEEN CANCELED. But somehow, there is a book. So what is up with that?

So while the pencil wants to just tell everyone to go home, nothing to see here, the crayons want everyone to know what happened.

So the stage is set....

And suddenly a screaming scribble rents the page!

Consternation in Crayonland. But that's okay, the cleaning crew will take care of it.

Except the cleaning crew just makes it BIGGER. So everyone tries to help push it off the page.

But the scribble was out of control!

So everyone had to leave and the book was cancelled. Except.....

...nobody told Frankencrayon who had been told to wait on page 22.

Frankencrayon gave the scribble a mouth so he could figure out what was going on.

And then we get to the lessons learned--

1. Don't forget to tell everyone when a story has been canceled!
2. Don't try to unscribble a scribble by scribbling on it.
3. Even a messy scribble can be a lovely  thing.

There's a Monster in Your Book! By Tom Fletcher & Illus by Greg Abbott

Isn't that an adorable little monster? I couldn't resist.

This is a really fun, interactive book. Lots of giggles and laughter when we read it.

There appears to be a page eating monster in the book.

So we do everything we can to get him OUT of the book.

Because no one needs a page eating monster in their book.

Finally, we are so loud and scary the little monster leaves. Yay!!

Except.... if he isn't in this book, where did he go?

Is he loose in your bedroom? Under your bed??

Call him back!!

Phew! He is back in the book.

And now he is tired. Pat his head and tell him good night.

And ever so quietly close the book.

Pretty cute, huh?

Not sure how this will translate in a whole class setting in the library, but it worked really well as a snuggle up and read together book!

The NOT So Quiet Library by Zachariah OHora

This book is awesome. I have had it hanging out in my Saved For Later section of my Amazon cart for a good while, and then I saw it at the library the other day. I love it!

This is the story of a little boy, Oskar, and his bear, Theodore, who love to spend time at the library with their father on Saturdays. Pretty solid beginning! And when I opened it up and saw this....

...I knew it was going to be a fabulous book! I think I am a little in love with that hipster dad and his overflowing quantity of library books.

Saturday was library day.

Dad always said that a day of quiet exploration required a proper breakfast.

This guy does library books by the boatload, spends the day at the library, and considers doughnuts to be a proper breakfast... How cool is he?

At the library--
They headed down to the children's department while Dad headed up to the nap department.

While they are enjoying their books, things get noisy.

It appeared there was a monster in the library.

An angry, hungry monster.

Oskar and Theodore try all sorts of different hilarious tactics to deal with the monster.

And they finally figure out why this monster is so put out.

Seriously, this monster sprinkling sprinkles on them before eating them is one of my favorite parts. A sprinkle loving, five headed monster.

Theodore thinks quickly and averts disaster.

Just in time for story time.

Every one enjoys story time. Even monsters.

Pretty sure most kids wouldn't get this joke, but it cracks me up!

After they show the monster the finer points of book love, Oskar and Theodore head home.

With a lot of books.
