The Moon is Going to Addy's House by Ida Pearle

The amazing Ida Pearle has another adorable book!

The simplicity of the plot, a little girl observing the moon following from a playdate to her house, allows readers to really sink into the illustrations. With a full, overblown moon hanging around, it is pretty easy to fall into them.

Time to go home!

Meeting daddy. I love the enthusiasm!

Those braids!!

Watching the moon.

Hair blowing in the wind.

Oh my goodness! So much to love here.

After her bath, Ida goes out to bathe in moonlight.

The lighting was a little off, so just know that Ida makes it look way better than this!

Bears are Sleeping by Yulya & Illus by Nonny Hogragian

This is simply the most charming wee little book I have seen in ages.

It was in the little book section of the Lake Placid Library. I love the little book section. Every time I go, I check out half the books.

Delicate and airy illustrations

And this isn't even a story! It is a song. The whole entire book is music notes.

I played it on the piano, because duh... how else will I know how to sing it? And it is a wandery, slightly minor tune that seems so gentle and yearning.

And do you see that fancy castle in the background? It is a Russian castle of course. Because look at the words--"I will sing for you my russian lullaby."

How adorable is a tiny little watercolor singing book?

The lyrics are not too complex--bears and many other animals are sleeping.

Snow is piling high

And there is the Russian castle again.

Such a quirky little book! Totally made my week.

The Cozy Book by Mary Ann Hoberman & Illus by Betty Fraser

This book is splendid! My sister, a cozy aficionado gave this to me a year ago to read, but somehow, it went into the to-read pile and never got read.

I picked it up yesterday and fell in love.

Betty Fraser also illustrated Hoberman's A House is a House For Me, which I have long adored, so I wasn't particularly surprised I loved this--just surprised I hadn't already read it.

Look at the detail for just the copyright page....!

When you wake up bright and early
In your roasty, toasty bed
With your covers wrapped around you
and your pillow on your head
And you peek out at the morning
That's a cozy kind of way
To begin the cozy doings
of a very cozy day.

Morning hugs.

After a week and a half of vacation, I am a little skeptical of the validity of sibling affection, but...

Cozy things to eat!

Look at the brownies in the garden at the cozy picnic!

Cozy things to play

Another lovely shelf illustration

A dreaming cat

Cozy smells

Cozy sounds.

I love the little girl in the top left with her hands in her pocket. When my youngest sister was 5 or 6, she told Mom that a day when you can keep your hands in your pockets is a good kind of day.

Pockets are cozy.

Love the way the babble of sounds is illustrated here

Cozy words

Cozy places

Cozy feelings

Of all the cozy things there are,
the coziest is bed.
Just curl up snug and shut the light.

And where ever 2019 brings you, I hope it brings you a lovely dose of cozy.

I Will Take a Nap! by Mo Willems

I don't think I have discussed Elephant and Piggie on here yet.

I LOVE ELEPHANT AND PIGGIE.

Piggie is calm and rational (generally) and elephant is volatile and reactive. But they are best friends and do everything together. Except nap apparently.

These books are so fun to read. Kids love all the over reaction and emoting.

Piggie is upside down. How could that NOT be hilarious.

Willems delights in the absurd

As well as the over the top.

I haven't read this to kids at school yet. I can't wait to do this loud snore. I sometimes worry about the teacher next door....

Clearly Piggie had a good nap, but not elephant!

But wait a minute!

Oh the nonsense!

My Own Room by Nancy Dingman Walsh & Illus by Erik Blegvad

My Own Room

Up in my bedroom
On a winter's night
The fir tree ticks the window
When I put out the light.

The sky is black and cold
  The stars flash bright
The moon and clouds roll by
             On the windy winter's night

I shiver as I watch
And I wish on a star
       The first or the brightest
On the one that blinks afar

         And after I have wished
I jump into bed
And the fir tree ticks the window
    All night by my head.

But when a storm is raging
Or I hear an owl call
I like to know my brother
     Is right down the hall.

All Ears, All Eyes

This is a rather gorgeously fall-ish book!

With rich and vibrant colors, it goes through all the things you might hear or see in the woods.

And then I got distracted by my owls in a pile of flowers from yesterday's pictures.

Raccoon at sundown, romping
Another, her brother, he's chomping.

It has a simplistic rhyme structure that is just right for the 2-5 year old range.

I looove this picture. So much color and imagery...

I am pretty partial to anything that focuses on walks in the woods.

These pictures....

...are glorious!
